This Web-based performance evaluation tool is the first nonmalignant hematology Practice Improvement Module, co-created by the American Society of Hematology and the American Board of Internal Medicine.

A new study by researchers at UC Davis, the University of Washington and Group Health Cooperative in Seattle concluded regular preventive health exams increase the likelihood older adults will get recommended cancer screenings.

Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) scans of women who were diagnosed with cancer in one breast detected over 90 percent of cancers in the other breast that were missed by mammography and clinical breast exam at initial diagnosis, according to a new study. Given the established rates of mammography and clinical breast exams for detecting cancer in the opposite, or contralateral breast, adding an MRI scan to the diagnostic evaluation effectively doubled the number of cancers immediately found in these women.

An analysis of 17 studies from nine countries has found that the more lymph nodes that are removed and examined during surgical treatment of colon cancer, the better the outcome appears to be for patients. The study suggests that removal of the nodes takes away a reservoir for potentially lethal cancer, and that knowing how far a cancer has spread leads to tailored and more beneficial treatment, according to researchers at the University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center.
